The Public Library of Science announced today that it will 
launch PLoS Pathogens, a new peer-reviewed, open-access 
journal. The journal will begin publication in September 
2005 and is accepting submissions now. John A.T. Young of 
the Salk Institute for Biological Studies is Editor-in-
Chief. He believes that open access is imperative in a 
field with improtant global, medical, agricultural and 
economic consequences.
