Contents:
On December 7, 2005, Senators Joe Lieberman and Thad
Cochran introduced the bipartisan CURES Bill which would
expedite the development of new therapies and cures for
life-threatening illnesses. Requirements of the bill
include free public access to articles stemming from
research conducted by Department of Health and Human
Services (including NIH), Centers for Disease Control, and
the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Funded
research would have to be made available in PubMed Central
within 4 months of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
