The Gtaes Foundation is funding 5 central facilities for 
AIDS research. One condition for receiving funding is that 
the consortia share information with other investigators 
and develop global access plans to ensure that discoveries 
will be accessible and affordable for developing countries. 
Such enforced data sharing will no doubt increase the pace 
of discovery. Researchers will still be free to 
commercialize their discoveries but must alos plan for 
access.
