German librarian Oliver Obst has written an open letter to
the American Association of Pediatrics complaining about
the pricing of its journal Pediatrics and how it is
impacting the practice and research in pediatrics in
Germany. He claims that increases in license pricing have
amounted to 260% in recent years and that this kind of
pricing hinders the reading and distribution of pediatric
research. Many German libraries have had to cancel the
journal and Obst claims that the reputation of the society
is suffering as well. |
