Headline: More Publishers Agree to Deposit in PubMed Central
Contents:
Later in 2008, Nature Publishing Group (NPG)will begin
depositing authors accepted manuscripts with PubMed
Central (PMC) and UK PubMed Central (UKPMC), meeting the
requirements for authors funded by the Howard Hughes
Medical Institute (HHMI), the National Institutes of Health
(NIH), The Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council and
a number of other major funders in the US, the UK and
Canada who mandate deposition in either PMC or UKPMC. NPG
hopes to extend the service to other archives and
repositories in future. NPG will deposit the accepted
version of the authors manuscript on acceptance, setting a
public release date of 6-months post-publication. There
will be no charge to authors or funders for the service.

Oxford Journals, too, will manage the mandated NIH deposit.
Biomedical articles that have been published in Oxford
Journals and funded by the NIH will now be deposited into
PMC. Now any NIH-funded authors who publish their articles
in an Oxford journal will not need to deposit them into PMC
themselves Oxford Journals will do so for no charge on
their behalf. Manuscripts which are NIH funded and already
open access will be available immediately on PMC. However,
only the final published articles rather than original
submitted versions will be available from PMC.
